Peggy, Hugh was such a special person and always took time out to give you a hug, and talk about the big scrub. He would tell me things about my Dad, Lamar Winegard I never knew. Hugh called me after Taylor Bean closed to make sure I was okay, he cared so much about his family. I've lost my cousin, friend and he'll always be in my heart.
Rest in peace sweet Hugh you'll always be in my heart.

Peggy, Rodger, Charlton,  I was floored when i heard about Hugh.  He was one of the biggest, strongest , kindest men In many ways I have even known.  I have many fond memories of Hugh from our kids playing soccer to us playing soccer. We did a little building together also.  Peggy, I appreciate all the kindness and friendship shown to me and my family by both of you.  There is a period of my life that Hugh played a big role in.  He will be missed but will always be in my memory.

Dear Peggy, I cannot sleep because I am thinking about you and dear, lovely Hugh. I saw the obit in the Statesman today and gasped.I saw Huge at one of the last regattas and he gave me one of those classic H.P. big ol' bear hugs. He was the ambassador at ARC and one of the reasons why that club could sometimes feel like home. I am so sorry for your loss, and I extend my profound sympathies to you and your extended family. Seeing you two rowing together in a boat with others made one appreciate how special you were as a couple and how generous and unique you each were as individual human beings. It is terribly sad to hear this news, but you should know that even people as peripheral or marginal to Hugh's life as, I are feeling, terribly, the loss of so good and gentle and giving a soul as he. In our universe, he was a very rare and special man. Good bye sweet Hugh Perry. You were a peach.
