Floyd Howard “Howie” Layhew, 71, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024. Howie was born in Gary, Indiana on April 9, 1953, to the late Floyd and Ida Layhew. He grew up in LaSalle, Illinois, and moved to Florida in 1985. On October 21, 1995 he married the love of his life, Sharon.
Howie worked as a Nuclear Instrument and Control Technician for Duke Energy and retired in 2005. After his retirement from Duke Energy, he went on to contracting for Nuclear Power Plants in the Southeast.
Howie had a great love for riding his Harley and a deep passion for trains since he was a young child.
Howie is survived by his wife, Sharon, his stepchildren, Penny Terry and Phillip (Cheri) Swain, his grandchildren, Meadow, Carter, and Ashlyn, his sister Bobbie (Jon) Shinabarger, his brother Doug (Sue) Layhew, and many nieces and nephews. Howie was met in heaven by his parents, his sister Norma Darnell, and his beloved dog Sportster.
A service will be held at South Point Church on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
