Dennis A. Pope

Dennis A. Pope, age 80, of Ocala, FL passed away on November 17, 2023 at E.W. Lucille Cates House in Ocala, FL. He was born in Abilene, TX on February 28, 1943 to the late Bernard Alvin and Bessie Lee (Boyle) Pope.

Dennis graduated from Abilene High School-Class of 1961 and attended McMurray University both in Abilene, TX.

He was a radio/teletype operator in the Army National Guard, HH&B 1st Bn 131st Arty, Abilene, TX, 1961-1969.

Dennis was a general contractor. He began his career with Jim Walter Corp. for 13 years in Dallas, TX and then transferred to Tampa, FL in 1973. He then worked for Scotty’s Lumber Co. and Lowe’s for 14 years on the Treasure Coast of FL. Dennis then became self-employed and was a Licensed Residential Building Contractor for 5 years and built numerous homes in Okeechobee, FL.

When he wasn’t working, his down time was spent golfing, fishing, hunting, NASCAR, painting and carving.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Bessie Pope and two nephews, Larry Dove and Timothy Dove.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Angeline (Rice) Pope-married June 26, 1964; son, David Pope and wife, Serena Ledig of Melbourne, FL; sister, Ann Dove Anderson of Bladenboro, NC and two nieces, Lee Ann Dove Bullard and Sherry Dove Kinlaw.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 12:30 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 S. Pine Ave., Ocala, FL 34480. A graveside service will follow at 1pm at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Ocala, FL.
