Born and raised in Arkansas, David was a 1983 graduate of Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas and a 1988 graduate of Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy. He was an avid fisherman, Harley Davidson enthusiast, and lifelong golfer. David loved books and was always reading, learning and absorbing knowledge. He was a gifted writer, with publications in various magazines. David was also a talented cook who explored a variety of cuisines. When not pursuing one of his favorite hobbies, David was an Agricultural Sales Rep.
On September 26th 2009, on the main stage on Dickson Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the annual Bikes, Blues, & Barbecue Motorcycle Rally, while surrounded by countless fellow bikers, family, and friends, David married Patricia. After a decade together they would move to Florida, where David was living out his dream with the love of his life!
David was preceded in death by his Mother, Donnie Kay Porter, and his Father, J. Darryl Porter. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Porter (FL); his sister, Dana Kay Porter (AR); his children, Amie Kay Porter (FL), Megan Nicole Smith (FL), April (Trey) Watson (AR), Hope (Cody) Kierre (AR), and Justin (Sam) Ellison (AR); five grandsons, 2 nephews, and several cousins, uncles and aunts.
A memorial service for David will be held on Sunday, December 12, at 6:30 PM at the Jonesboro Elks Lodge in Jonesboro, AR. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in David’s name to Everglades Coalition, as the Everglades was one of his favorite places, and near and dear to his heart.
