Alice Rose graduated from Industrial High School in Birmingham, Alabama. On March 25, 1940 , Alice Rose was joined in matrimony to her childhood sweetheart, Leon Samuel Hawkins in Detroit Michigan. Leon preceded her in death in 2006. They were blessed with two daughters, Barbara Ann and Beverly Ann. Alice and Leon’s love endured for sixty years.
Alice’s love for God, her husband and family engulfed her. Her strength, dignity and wisdom were constant. She denied herself the riches of the world to give to others not knowing that her ability to give was her loving spirit of compassion.
Alice loved to travel and visited many distant lands. She took her final trip home to be with the lord at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan on Thursday, February 2, 2012. She will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched. Surely, we thank God for her life.
Alice is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Ann Dodson and her devoted daughter Beverly Ann King, five grandchildren, Erica Helsen (Matthew), Jerry King, Tiffany King, Sheli Dodson, Bianca Cross (James), ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, one sister, Bertha Lawson, two brothers, Willie and Norman Jones, one sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson, one brother-in-law, Herbert Hawkins (Lucille), cousins, Elvirah Finley, Elzirah Drake (Mid), and James Funley (Evelyn, and cousin/son Clay Finley. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A special thanks to the family and friends who extended their love beyond all measures, during her time of need.
