William ‘Bill’ Parks was born on February 14, 1922, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Henry Parks and Barbara Williams. He was raised by his grandparents, Jerry and Sarah Parks in Muskogee, Oklahoma and attended Sugar Creek Elementary School and Moton High School. After graduating from high school, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He served 3 years and 6 months, which included a tour of duty in the South Pacific during World War II. Bill received several medals and was recognized for his contributions during the war.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Bill settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. Still a young man at the time of his discharge, he spent the next few years helping his uncle and aunt manage a family-owned and operated Gas Station in Oakland, CA. In 1950, he went to work for the U.S. Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA., where he held various positions within the Supply Dept. until his retirement in 1989. Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening, and volunteering at his church, Taylor Memorial United Methodist, where he was a member since 1951.
Bill Parks transitioned from this life on February 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry and Sarah Parks, parents, Henry Parks and Barbara Williams and daughter-in-law, Linda Parks.
Bill was a proud father and grandfather. He left to cherish his memories 3 children, Dean Parks of Lake Charles, LA, Jan Scott of Ione, CA and Lynette Monique Lockett of Oakland, CA, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
