Born Maggie Mae Coleman to Jenkins and Emma Lou Coleman, she was number six of twelve kids. The 6th child with a sixth sense! She was known for her outgoing nature, and her love for gardening, fishing, cooking, and celebrating life.
A believer, Maggie dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church, Eldorado, Arkansas. After moving to Oakland, California Maggie Mae actively participated in various ministries throughout her life.
Maggie Mae's spirit sparkled with quick wit, overflowing kindness, and boundless generosity that touched countless hearts. Fearless in sharing her treasures of love, life, and laughter, she lit up every gathering with her vibrant presence. Maggie had a forgiving heart. She didn't hold grudges or stay mad at anyone for long.
Maggie Mae cherished family moments, hosting numerous dinners, fish fry's, and spontaneous social gatherings. Earning her the nickname of "Ms. Molly" because "Good Golly Maggie surely knew how to party.
She worked diligently at the US Postal Service for 29 years until her retirement. During her mail carrier days, she was a well-known beacon in the Sobrante Park neighborhood. Maggie was so dedicated to getting her mail delivered on time that during her pregnancy with her fourth child, she would often have her other daughters around to assist with getting the mail to the door.
As a southern-born woman living in the City of Oakland, California, Maggie's unwavering commitment to her family followed and was evident in how she raised her four daughters, Melissa, Tanya, LaFrancyne, and Tiffany. Not perfect but she instilled in them faith in God, strong values, work ethics, and teachings that continue to guide them today.
