In Loving Memory Of Our Beloved Adrienne Murphy
Adrienne Murphy, also affectionately known as “A,” “Mommy,” “Sisi,” and “AA,” the daughter of the late George Murphy and Lucinda Anderson, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church and clung close to God and her faith until the end of her days.
She completed her formal education at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in the Fort Greene neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, in 1983. Just before graduating, Adrienne won a typing contest at her school, allowing her the unique opportunity to work on Wall Street in Manhattan while briefly attending Pratt Institute. A numbers and linguistics wiz, she began working as a bookkeeper at Chemical Bank, managing accounts of high-profile clients.
In addition to her formal education at Bishop Loughlin, later in life, she returned to school at Troy University to pursue her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. While at Troy, she completed mediation training. A gentle and peaceful spirit and effective communicator, Adrienne would use her training to help facilitate mediation sessions for hundreds of families and the Bay Area public at a reputable non-profit, SEEDS Community Resolution Center, where she served as the Administration Director and lead mediator for 20 years. Aside from her time at SEEDS, she had a successful wreath business called MizMurphy’s Crafts, where she made customized wreath frames, broaches, and traditional Black American wedding brooms for family, friends, and the greater public.
Aside from her business, financial, and creative talent, Adrienne had a huge heart and decided to pursue caregiving to elders. From 2012-2017, she pursued her In-home Supportive Services certification.
She also adored the performing arts and travel (Paris, France, and London were some of her favorite places to visit), as she embodied an impenetrable zeal for experiencing all that life had to offer her.
Despite the above accomplishments, one of her greatest gifts in life was her family. In the early nineties, she married Lionel Fluker in New York City. Shortly after her marriage, they relocated from New York to Oakland, California, to start their family. There, she raised her only daughter, Dominique Fluker. As a loving mother, Adrienne was a present, supportive, fiercely protective parent, always encouraging Dominique to be her best.
She will remain an effervescent and sparkling light in our lives, and her joyful, kind, powerful, and positive spirit will be sorely missed. Her legacy was to uplift the downtrodden with a smile, offer a helping hand, and make the world a better place, as she believed that was the way of Jesus Christ, and she was a devoted follower and believer.
She leaves to mourn her daughter, Dominique Fluker, sister, Anita Murphy, and her children (Donzell Lewis, David Worrell, Joseph Worrell, Joshua Worrell, Selwyn Worrell, Marcus Worrell, Precious Worrell, Princess Worrell), her brother and his children (Deanna, Dequan, Olivia, Jamila, Jasmine, Elijah), and a host of loving cousins and friends.
