Our beloved Mortaza Alavi passed away on January 2, 2022, at the age of 80 in his home with his family by his side. His courage, wisdom, and devotion to his family was evident his entire life and was unwavering these past three month as he battled cancer. He will be missed deeply by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Fahimeh, his children, Neda, Raha (Farhad), Steve, and Kevin (Britty), his nine beautiful and brilliant grandchildren, Brooke, Matthew, Alexa, Kian, Kaden, Ethan, Maddox, Jacob and Fallon, his siblings, and his many nieces and nephews. He was loved and respected by so many for his generosity, graciousness, humility, intelligence, and forgiving heart.
Mortaza followed his own path throughout his life. He was born in Shiraz, Iran and was the 4th of eight siblings, and seven half siblings. He prided himself as being tough and willing to stand up to fight for what he believed. He was a student of history, politics, and geography, and was passionate about equality and inclusion. When he immigrated from Iran to the US over 50 years ago, he settled in the Chicago area and was a proud Chicagoan through and through.
Mortaza was a natural leader and operations expert, as evidenced by the companies he launched and ran in Iran, and as the Director of Medical Records at Cook County Hospital where he had a principal role in the move from Cook County to Stroger Hospital. He was active in coaching his boys baseball teams and helping with the care of his precious grandchildren during retirement.
