Maxine Carol Carlstedt, 90, of Chicago, Illinois died on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. She was born on April 29, 1933, in Dundee Michigan, the daughter of the late Leroy and Beulah Reames. Maxine was the oldest of two daughters.
Maxine went to Calumet high school which is the same school her father taught physics and math. She went on to get her bachelor degree in teaching at the Chicago Teachers College and master degree at Loyola University. Maxine worked as a schoolteacher and later on as a school administrator until she retired in 1992. After retiring Maxine went back to school and earned a certificate in Desk Top Publishing. She had several volunteer jobs creating newsletters and brochures. She also took up quilting and became quite good at it. With Maxine’s artistic flair she created beautiful quilts.
Maxine was married to the late Paul Carlstedt in Chicago, Illinois on June 19, 1954, and remained happily married for nearly 56 years up until the day Paul passed. Maxine is survived by her sister Dian, her children: Douglas, Claire, and Mark, 8 grandchildren: Christopher, Jaime, Amanda, Emma, Quinn, Grant, Connor, Mason and 7 great grandchildren.
Maxine loved to travel; Greece was one of her favorite and most frequent destinations. In 1972 her husband Paul was transferred to Europe for work, and they packed up the family and moved to the Netherlands. Living in the Netherlands afforded her the opportunity to pursue her passion for travel. She and Paul traveled all over Europe and beyond. Some of their most notable trips were to China, Japan, Africa, and Egypt. They also made a point to take each of the grandchildren on a special trip. Maxine and Paul lived in the Netherlands for 15 years. Upon their return to the States, they lived in Portland Oregon, Fort Collins Colorado and Maxine’s last move was back to Chicago to be near her daughter.
The Memorial Service will be held on Friday July 28th 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home at 17W201 Roosevelt Rd. Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181. Burial to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
