She grew up on a farm with her parents and six siblings. Not one for farm life, she moved to St. Paul MN after graduating from Winthrop High School, completed nursing school at Hamline University, and then moved to Chicago to work at Hines VA Hospital. She met her husband Richard (Dick) on a blind date in Oak Park and they were married on Jan 6, 1951 on a very cold day in Winthrop, MN. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before Dick passed away on Jan. 26, 2016. They moved to Wheaton where they lived for almost 50 years until moving to Oak Brook in 2004.
Marion was a consummate homemaker, cook, and entertainer. She was known for her beautiful home, gourmet cooking, Christmas cookies, and many wonderful parties. She also loved to play games of all kinds and played bridge regularly until the day she passed away. The family has many fond memories of playing games with “Gommie” who always liked to win! Marion also was very active in the community through the garden club she founded, Junior Women’s Club, and volunteer work, particularly at Central DuPage Hospital. She also very much enjoyed the years she worked at Environments in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Above all, Marion was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She remembered every birthday, anniversary, and special occasion, the dates of which she carefully updated in her calendar every year. She made everyone feel special and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members.
Marion is survived by her children, Susan Nordine, and Patricia (David Herring) Frazier; grandchildren, Kristen Nordine, Kendall (Adam) Shambeau, Kelsey Nordine, Collin Nordine, and Julia Herring; great-grandchildren, Henry and Oliver Shambeau; sister, Joanne Gustafson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. Frazier; twin sister, Marilyn Ruud; and brothers, Orall, Hilbert, Donald, and Wayne Gustafson.
