Helen B. Platson (nee Witowski) of Lexington Square in Elmhurst, Illinois, died on July 23, 2015. Helen was born on January 29, 1918, in Export, Pennsylvania, to Ignatious and Stella (Drzewiecki) Witowski. She was the sixth of nine children.
Helen married Joseph Labedz in Chicago, Illinois, on September 10, 1938. Together they had one daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Neumann. They lived in Chicago thirteen years and Naperville for twenty years until Joseph’s death in 1971.
On May 17, 1975, Helen married Harold Platson. They lived in Itasca, Illinois, until they retired and moved to Sarasota, Florida, in 1979. They also enjoyed spending their summers at their cottage in Poynette, Wisconsin. In 2006, Helen and Harold moved to the Lexington Square of Elmhurst. Harold passed away in August 2012.
Helen graduated from Watson’s Business School in June, 1936, and became a secretary for WLS Studio. In her later life, she was a medical secretary for Western Electric.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and her husbands Joseph Labedz and Harold Platson. She is survived by daughter Barbara (Jerry) Neumann, granddaughter Michelle (Russell) Cowles, grandson David Neumann, great grandsons Kyle and Tyler Neumann, great granddaughters Mackenzie and Haley Cowles, step-grandchildren Laura (Greg) Wright, Karen (Mete) Alpan, Tim Platson, and step-great grandchildren Nichole and Natalie Alpan, Gabriel Wright, Owen, Alice and Issac Grzynkowicz, and sister Eleanore Rankin.
Helen enjoyed her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and liked to entertain. She loved all children who were often captivated by her “magic ring” trick. Her hobbies included reading, sewing and crafting.
Visitation Tuesday 10:00 am until time of service 10:30 am at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17 W. 201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace. Entombment Mt. Emblem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the charity of your choice appreciated.
