Elaine Jean Taylor, age 88, of Oswego, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Elaine was born in Suffern, New York on February 12, 1936, where she spent her childhood and early adult years. For a short time as a young mother and wife, she lived in California, but spent most of her adult life in Hialeah, Florida, where she raised her four sons. When she became a single mom, she attended nursing school, earning a master’s degree and worked as head of nursing at Hialeah Hospital and Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah.
Elaine moved to Clermont, Florida in 1999 to be near her son, Tommy, and his family. There, she spent time with her grandchildren and continued her career in nursing until she retired and married the love of her life, Barry James, in 2013. Elaine and Barry enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 10 years as she took a keen interest in his music career and cared for him, until he passed away in September of 2023. Elaine moved to the Chicago suburbs in November of 2023 to be near her youngest son, Ted, and his family. She enjoyed living independently, cooking her mother’s Italian recipes, attending church, and keeping up with family and friends. She was energetic and tenacious, with a youthful, stylish spirit until the day she passed.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, William E. Miele Sr. and Edith (D’Avanzo) Miele; her siblings, William E. Miele, Jr. and Marilyn (Miele) Stolarik; her son, Thomas Taylor (JoAnn) and her husband, Barry James. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Tim Taylor, Tod Taylor (Sherry), and Ted Taylor (Pam); her daughter-in-law, Jo-Ann Taylor; her 9 grandchildren Amber (Rob), Dane (Celeste), Thomas (Emily), Brandon (Katia), Macy (Landon), Kristin, Laura, Elizabeth, and Sarah; and her adorable great-grandson, Jack.
Service information: Funeral mass at 11am, Friday, July 19th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont, Florida. Burial will be immediately following at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Gotha, FL.
