Thomas Walter Hayes Sr. was born in Frankfurt, Germany on March 16, 1981, to Carlos Hayes and Marlene Hayes. Thomas received Christ at an early age. During his later years, he became a member of Greater Mountain of Hope Church where he attended with his family, developing his spiritual relationship with God. Thomas enjoyed the harmonious beauty of choral music from his church, which filled his soul with peace and joy. Thomas's favorite gospel song was “Jesus Can Work It Out.”
Thomas attended St. Thaddeus Elementary School and proceeded to Leo High School. During high school, Thomas wrestled played football and fell in love with the art of boxing. After graduation, Thomas attended Joliet Junior College where he pursued a collegiate football career. After suffering a personal injury Thomas shifted his attention to boxing. Thomas would become a successful professional boxer obtaining a record of 26-2. After Thomas's boxing career, he worked for the State Attorney’s Office for 12 years.
While working for the State Attorney’s office Thomas would attend Chicago State University and obtain his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In 2012, Thomas married the love of his life Veronica (Dotson) Hayes. Their union produced three precious children-Thomas Hayes Jr., Carla, and Michael (Mikey). Thomas would later work for the Chicago Park district heading their boxing program where he would mentor more than 500 kids yearly. As a skilled boxing trainer, he found fulfillment in mentoring others, sharing his expertise, and encouraging their growth.
Thomas cherished every moment spent with friends and family, finding joy in their company and laughter. He was an avid reader, immersing himself in stories and knowledge, and had a deep appreciation for music, which brought him solace and inspiration. His passion for travel took him to many places, where he embraced new experiences and cultures.
Above all, Thomas's greatest pride and joy came from caring for his family. His love for them knew no bounds, and he always prioritized their happiness and well-being. He delighted in planning family trips and choosing destinations where his children could have fun while expanding their horizons through learning and exploration. Thomas' unwavering devotion and the memories he created with his family left an indelible mark of love and unity.
He was preceded in death by his cherished mother, Marlene Hayes, his brother, Carlos Hayes, and loving grandmother, Marlene and aunt Kimberly Walters.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Veronica Hayes; children, Thomas Hayes Jr., Carla, and Michael (Mikey); father, Carlos Hayes; sister, Lyretha, and brother De'Andre. He also leaves behind his mother-in-love, Earrlyen, sister-in-love, Tiffany, brother-in-love, Andre; uncles Jonathan and Gregory; aunts Deborah, Kathy, Patrice, Kimberly Fair; nephews Hamza, Hashem, Ismail, and Ayaan; nieces Shanice, Rasmieh, Yasmina, Tamia, and Nefertiti; cousins Reese, Kimberly, Mark, Chanel, Marquita, Tiara, Gregory, Matthew, and Tori; Lifelong best friend David of more than 25 years, and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
