Sandra “Sandy” (nee: Stockstell) Loven, 67, died peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at Holy Cross Hospital. Sandy was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 14, 1949, to Elzy and Anna Stockstell. Sandy attended Gage Park High School, and went on to earn her degree in early childhood education from Richard J. Daley college. Sandy married Joel Loven on October 27, 1973, and together they shared 43 years of marriage and two children: Erik (Lisel) Loven, of Cudahy, WI, and Julie Loven of Chicago, IL. Sandy is survived by her immediate family who she loved so dearly, as well as brother-in-law George Loven, sister-in-law Jean (Greg) Nastali, nephew Joe (Jenny) Risberg, niece Amy (Kevin) Woloszyk, niece Cara Nastali, and five great nieces and nephews. Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Elzy and Anna, as well as her beloved Aunt Bea and Uncle Frank Zinkiewicz. Sandy worked for many years as a preschool and kindergarten teacher at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She loved all children, and was known to use her considerable skills with a crochet hook to fashion beautiful blankets to welcome new babies to the family. Her artistic talents could also be seen in the elaborate Halloween costumes she fashioned for her children each year; these costumes and the stories behind them remain some of the fondest memories her children carry from their childhoods. Sandy will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. It brings them comfort and pride to know that her spirit will live on in her two children, to whom she passed her love of old movies, art, Christmas, animals, and family. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9701 Brandt Ave. in Oak Lawn on June 7, 2017 at 10 a.m., followed by burial services at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen Park. There will be a visitation held at Zimmerman and Sandeman Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Sandy was a proud four-time survivor of breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in her honor to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org).
