Mr. Ray D. Grimes was born December 26, 1931, in Monroe, Georgia to the late Mr. Frank Thomas Grimes and Mrs. Pinkie Roberta Floyd Jackson. He received his education in Decatur, Georgia where he graduated from Herring Street School. He later served in the US Army overseas in the Korean War and was part of the Special Entertainment Troop.
Ray was very gifted in the fine arts. He had a passion for singing and drawing alike. He also loved fishing, spending time with his family and was always the life of the party.
He met Louise Smith in Chicago in 1959 and later united in holy matrimony. God graced their marriage with three children.
Ray went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by five siblings and one grandchild, Jarrett Rowe.
His three children will cherish memories of his love and devotion: Logan M. Grimes (Laura), Sylvia D. Grimes and Raye A Grimes-Rowe, seven grandchildren: Quinton, Toni, Hopeton Jr. (Kim), Kardiae, Simone, Jalen, Sydney; five great-grandchildren: Aniyah, Taylor, Ashton, Kyrin and Sage and a host of relatives and friends who all loved him dearly.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Ray that will be held on Friday, May 10th, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453 followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL 60805.
