Joyce was born on July 1, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Anna (Florkowsky) Krause. She raised one daughter, Bethann, and three sons Mark, Wayne, and Jason. As generations grew, she became known to all her family and friends as Nana, a fitting name for such a loving person.
Joyce lived in Oak Lawn, Illinois for most of her life. She attended Reavis High School and then transferred to Oak Lawn Community High School when it opened, where she was in the first graduating class of OLCHS. At age 15 she received her first piano as a gift from her father which she enjoyed playing. She was nicknamed “Curly” as a young girl because of her curly hair and similar resemblance to Shirley Temple. Joyce was an avid golfer and bowler for more than 20 years. Her trophies were her pride and joy. She owned and operated the family business, Oak Lawn Camera Shop for many years. After retiring and selling the business, she went to work as a bank teller at the drive-up window for Oak Lawn Bank.
She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren at any time, teaching them how to play and have dress up dates with all her clothes and jewelry. Nana loved reminiscing and showing off all of her beautiful photos. Nana loved hosting family dinners - her potato salad and sloppy joes were everyone’s favorites. Her grandson Brian spent a few years living with her and they enjoyed each other’s company. Her house was always open to everyone, grandchildren and their friends alike. She enjoyed laughing and telling jokes. For the last 10 years she lived in Florida near her daughter Bethann enjoying the beautiful weather, shopping, and relaxing sunsets. Nana enjoyed collecting and displaying many trinkets and antiques in her beautiful home. In February 2020, Joyce moved in with Bethann and David. They enjoyed each other’s company and went on many outings and trips despite Covid. Visits and phone calls from her kids and grandkids made Nana most happy. You were always greeted with a warm smile, loving arms, and a bucket of candy when you went to see Nana. The game show network always played softly in the background. The babies were her favorite, she enjoyed singing lullabies and nursery rhymes. Nana was truly an amazing woman and was greatly loved by so many. She will be missed tremendously.
