John Talbot “Jack” Schwab, age 83, of the Lake of Egypt area south of Marion, IL, formerly of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully at 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022, in AccentCare BayCare Health System - St. Joseph's Hospital Inpatient Hospice Center.
Jack was born on December 11, 1938, in Joliet, IL, the son of John F. and Ann Loretta (Talbot) Schwab.
Jack attended Joliet grade schools and Joliet Township High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 through 1961 and his last duty assignment was on the USS Independence (CVA-62).
Jack was united in marriage to Marlene M. (Spreitzer) Schwab on September 22, 1962, in St. Raymond’s Catholic Church of Joliet, and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
He was a well-known and trusted automobile salesman for many years working at dealerships including Bill Jacobs Chevrolet in Joliet, Village Ford in Bolingbrook and Ron Tirapelli Ford in Joliet.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Marion.
When Jack was younger, he loved cars and playing the drums with a local band. He was an avid fisherman while his favorite vacation spots included Manitowish Waters and Hayward in Northern Wisconsin. He also loved coaching his daughters’ softball teams each summer for the Joliet Softball Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Schwab of Tampa, FL; grandson, Austin Bartusek of Tempe, AZ; one sister, Mary Ann (Jim) Ward of New Lenox, IL; sister-in-law, Kathy (Spreitzer) Cassidy of Lewisville, TX; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Spreitzer) Lisi and husband, Al of Viera, FL; brother-in-law, Richard Spreitzer of Joliet, IL; sister-in-law, Sue Spreitzer of Elwood, IL, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Marlene; daughter, Kristina Bartusek; sister-in-law Mary (Spreitzer) Blanchette (brother-in-law Vernon Blanchette) and two brothers-in-law, Raymond and Robert Spreitzer (sister-in-law Rose (VanVleck) Spreitzer); and brother-in-law Jon W. Cassidy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home & Cemetery, 11333 S Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL.
The graveside committal service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, located at 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, IL, with Deacon Milton Leppert presiding.
Those wishing to attend the graveside committal service should gather at the cemetery prior to 11:45 a.m.
