Dorothy departed this life early October 11, 2024, at home with her daughter Sylvia Ann Sanders.
Dorothy was joined in holy matrimony to Jimmie Thomas Sanders Sr. in 1955, who preceded her in death. To this union three children were born. Jimmie Sanders Jr., Dennis Sanders and Sylvia Ann Sanders.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age. In 1970, she joined Haven A Rest M.B Church, under the leadership of the lar Rev. John L Conner, where she served faithfully on the Missionary Board.
On January 7, 1972, Dorothy Mae Tiner graduated from the Apex College with a diploma in Beauty Culture and Hairdressing. She worked as a license beautician in her sister’s Vidillia Tiner Allision beauty shop. Viola’s Beauty Salon on 63rd Steet in Chicago for many years. For many years, she worked as a beautician where her hands worked wonders, turning out flawless hairstyles. She was a confidante to her clients, offering an ear and a kind word while making them feel beautiful. It was a sanctuary where her warmth and kindness touched many lives. After so many years of being a full-time beautician she decided to do hair part time and pursue her future training in Caregiving for the elderly. This transition allowed her to blend her natural talent for personal care with a newfound purpose. Her care shifted to Caregiving for the elderly wasn’t just a professional change but a heart driven journey. She started working with various elderly clients, providing them with not just practical care but also warmth and compassion, significantly improving their quality of life. Through this work she found a deep sense of fulfillment and joy in making a meaningful difference every day.
Dorothy was a master in the kitchen and her love for cooking matched her devotion to her family. Every meal she prepared was a feast for the sense, crafted with care and an undeniable flair that transformed simple ingredients into culinary delight. Family gatherings were her favorite occasions. They allowed her to bask in the warmth and joy of having loved ones close, savoring the laughter and conversations that filled our home.
She held high standards and instilled in her children the values of discipline and respect. Her firm hand guided us through life’s challenges, and her unwavering principles were the bedrock of our upbringing.
Her obsession with cleanliness was legendary. She maintained a spotless house each corner meticulously cleaned and organized. To her a clean home was a reflection of one’s character and discipline. She often said that “a tidy home created a peaceful mind”, and we lived by her words ensuring that our living spaces always mirrored her standards of neatness.
In every facet of our lives, her influence was evident and her love for cooking, brought our family together, while her stern guidance and insistence on cleanliness shaped our character.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Jimmie Sanders Jr. (LeeAnn) and Dennis Sanders (Kathleen), one daughter Sylvia Ann Sanders. One brother, Rev. Charles Tiner Sr., Springfield, IL. 15 grandchildren, Alonzo (LaQuisha), Antwain, Naeshun, Auri, Katrice, Chayla, Isaiah, Mia, Meagan, Monteray, Merlina, Dennis Jr. (Josephine), Akyla (Pierre) Joshua, Erica: A host of great grandchildren. Two special nieces Mary “Bunchie” Tiner and Shirley Allison. Two special nephews, Minister Vanlee Tiner and Minister Charles W. Tiner Jr.
A visitation will be held on Friday October 25th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 Central Avenue, Oak Lawn, Illinois, 60453, Followed by a burial at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery.
