Donald R Decker

Donald R Decker, age 76, of Oak Lawn, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Beloved father of Dawn (Jim) Decker-Sola and Peggy (Kevin) Balentyne; cherished grandfather of Amaya and Elyse Balentyne; dear brother of Eileen (late Ray) Swatkowski, late John (late Diane) and late Louis (late Anita) (late Wanda) Decker; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Don was affectionately called Donnie by family and friends. The youngest of four, he was raised in a loving close-knit Dutch family and attended Christian Reformed Church. He graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (Delevan, Wisconsin) in 1966 where he was an all-star athlete on the football team. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 32 years (1969-2001).

Don enjoyed camping and going on road trips to events like Sturgis and Daytona Bike Week. In his retirement years, he owned numerous classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles. The 57 Chevy was his favorite. He enjoyed going to car shows and won numerous awards and trophies for his cars.

He took pride in his daughters and granddaughters and their accomplishments. They were his greatest accomplishment. .

A visitation for Donald will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 12:00 PM until Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. In lieu of flowers donations to your local animal shelter would be appreciated.
