If this is my "Mr. Quirk" that I worked with at the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau in the early '70's, I want to offer my deepest sympathy.  He made a great impression on me and I still kept a note he had written to my Mom and Dad about "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree".  He was a wonderful man to work with and I'll never forget him!  So sorry for your loss.

Whitey and our dad, Bap Fagan, were schoolmates at Our Lady of Peace, enlisted in the Marine Corps at the same time and had a lifelong friendship.  Bap always had the very highest regard for Whitey.  They were among the finest of the Greatest Generation.

We remember Whitey's kindness when our dad passed away.  He shared many memories of Bap's heroism and humor and eased our sorrow.  Our hope is that you will find comfort in the memories you have of such a kind, courageous and outstanding man.

Dear Aunt “Sis” and Quirk cousins –

It is with deep sorrow that I learned of Uncle Brian’s passing.  Several fond memories come to mind when I think of him…

When there was a heavy snowfall in Chicago, the Quirk family would stop by our house on Maplewood and pick up the McGuan cousins and take us tobogganing at Dan Ryan Woods.  While flying down the toboggan shoot, Uncle Brian would hoot and holler the whole way down the hill.  Then on the way up, which was of course the hard part, he would cheer us along with a “gung-ho” chant that always made the up-hill chore of dragging that heavy toboggan seem like fun.

While staying over night with darling Kathy, I remember eating breakfast the next day in the big kitchen with Uncle Brian circling around the room singing “Oh What a Beautiful Morning.”  To this day when I hear that song, I still think of Uncle Brian singing that song that so befit his cheerful personality. 

Lastly, I will always be touched that Uncle Brian, without fail, remembered the names of my family members, what they were up, and asked how they were doing.   

When my father died, Uncle Brian said, “He was a gentleman and a gentle man.”  He sure had a way with words so I will use his same “gentle” way to remember him.

Our family was very sorry to hear the passing of "The Colonel". He brought much joy, life and energy to the Palos Pines neighborhood back in the 1960's and 70's. His regular "Code-Cracker" hikes in the Palos Park forest preserves with all the neighborhood boys was always great fun (although we never seemed to actually find any code-crackers), pulling all the guys in a toboggan behind the car on a snowy day, and his 4th of July military excursions around the neighbor were all great memories. 
Mr & Mrs. Quirk were good friends with my parents, a friendship that both my parent's charish to this day even though they've been moved away for many years now. The Col. passing on Memorial Day is fitting for an American Hero, much like John Adams and Thomas Jefferson passing on July 4th.

Quirk Family-
I am sorry for the loss of Brian, truly an "American Hero".  My Dad saw the notice and story about Brian in the newspaper.  He remembers Brian well as they were only 2 years apart at Our Lady of Peace and DeLaSalle.  The people of these two schools bonded in a special way and were an extended family.  They would do anything for each other and were/are proud of their humble beginnings on the south side of Chicago!!  Our country would not be the same without them.  OLP produced many wonderful, accomplished people with great Catholic values who have made this world a better place to live.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Brian was such a wonderful man and his thoughtfulness and kindness was always shown. He would tell me stories of my great grandfather Jacob who was his grandfather. I could often picture in my mind Grandpa Jake and Brian. My dad Harry who passed in 2005 had high regards for Brian. I only met "Colonel" Quirk one time but spoke to him many times on the phone as a beloved and respected friend to my colleague, Patrick J. Donovan.  I must say, he made quite the impression and had I had the privilege to spend any amount of time with him, I have no doubt my fondness for him would only have grown.  The world will be a bit less bright for the loss of this extraordinary man but I know for a fact that he touched a least one life very significantly - my friend Patrick.

The Houlihan family remembers Brian Quirk as being part of the "greatest generation."  God Bless.

My condolences to the Quirk family.  My father was also a member of Carlson's Raiders who passed away 14 yrs ago.  All these men were of a special breed and our nation should be greatful for what they did.  I have the utmost respect for all men and women in uniform and am so proud to say that I am the daughter of "A Raider".  I continue to honor my father, as well as other Raiders by being a member of the Assoc and attending their reunions.  I am in awe when I am in the presence of these hereos.  Your dad, my dad, and all those who have gone before and after them will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

My codolences to the family, I did not know Mr. Quirk but my Dad was a Navy man also in WWII and I lost him 10 years ago but it seems like yesterday.

We are out of town and so sorry to hear of Brian's passing.

The Quirk family should know that I didn't know Mr. Quirk for very long, however, he was one of the most motivating people I have ever known. Please know that he will be remembered always in our prayers. Whitey's children and family were luicky to have had him in their lives. I was lucky to have learned so much in a short time.
