Benjamin Sompio Sombero, age 72, of Worth, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Beloved husband of Genevieve Sombero; loving father of Tristan (Ciara) Sombero, Michelle (Christopher) Mercado; adoring grandfather of Cian Sombero, Tyler Sombero, Derek Mercado and Aaron Mercado.

Ben was a true sports enthusiast, with a passion for every sport, but especially basketball. Beyond his athletic spirit, Ben had a gift for making people laugh. He was the funniest guy in the room, always ready with a joke or a funny story that would bring smiles to everyone’s face.

With a larger-than-life personality, Ben was the life of every party, effortlessly drawing people in with his warmth and charisma. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone he’d just met, Ben had a way of making everyone feel like family. He was everyone's friend, always ready to lend an ear or offer support, and his genuine care for others made him someone people could always rely on.

Above all, Ben was the ultimate family man. He cherished his loved ones and was deeply dedicated to them, making sure to create lasting memories and forge strong, meaningful relationships.

Outgoing, friendly, and personable, Ben's life was a reflection of his commitment to connecting with people and spreading joy. He built lasting relationships both in the U.S. and the Philippines, always seeking to brighten the lives of those around him with his infectious sense of humor. What made Ben truly remarkable, however, was his resilience. No matter the challenges he faced, Ben had an extraordinary ability to rise above, using his experiences to grow stronger and more resourceful. His strength, optimism, and unwavering spirit were qualities that anyone who knew him admired.

A visitation for Benjamin will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 1:00pm until 5:00pm at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W 111th St, Palos Hills, IL 60465.
