My son had enormous praise for the commitment Tony expressed to the members of the firehouse, community, and family.  He was an example for all young firefighters and will surely be missed. Condolences to Tony's family.  Tony and I met a the Cook County Jail.  I was a paramedic earlier in my career, but due to a knee problem went on to the Law Enforcement end. When Tony and I would see each other we would talk, laugh, and express ourselves in only the way someone working in our  environment could.  He was always a person that would lend a hand and not be afraid to assist law enforcement if needed.  Tony will always be remembered as a guy with others in mind.

When I came to the church for his service, the emotion was almost unbearable.  His "sending home" was one of the most breath taking beautiful experiences, you could see how truly loved he was and is.  

May GOD Bless the familyand comfort them through this time of grieving, and always. Tony was taken from our community way to soon.  You all must be extremely proud of your hero.

There are no words to express how sorry I am about your loss of Tony.  I, as well as many other nurses, were fortunate enough to care for Tony while he was hospitalized at Palos Hospital.  We all were continually in awe of his strength, courage and genuine concern for others.  You could look at him and know he wasnt feeling good, but before he asked for anything he would ask, "how is your night going?"  or be sure to say, "whenever you get time".  He was most sincere and nicest person I have met in a long time.
Some people ask us "how do you do this job?".....my answer is "how could I not?"  I have been forever changed by personally witnessing his superhuman strength, courage, love for his family and beloved dog.  I will be a better nurse for having taken care of Tony....not for what I did for him....but for what he has given to so many of us.
I pray you all find comfort in your memories and know that so many of us will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Volpe Family,

I went to Bogan with Tony, and had many laughs with him during band. Even then he talked about being a firefighter and how he liked wearing T-shirts from different fire departments. My uncle was the fire chief in White Bear Lake, MN and I tried getting him a shirt from there, but failed. I was on FB and saw him comment on one of my friends statuses I immediately called her to find out if it was the same Tony! I was so happy to hear that he was able to do what he always wanted to do! I only went to Bogan for a little over a year but he was one of the few people that stuck out! I will be praying for your entire family right now.

I have been in touch with Gray in the last month and he did inform me that Tony was ill. I am glad to see that Tony did make it as a firefighter and to gain the rank of Captain.
