He is proceeded in death by his first wife Florence O’Hara Berger of 44 years, his brother William Berger, and his sister Jeanne Bywater.
He is survived by his wife, Joanie Checkley Berger; his siblings, Ruth Schuller, Carol Pascuzzi, Jack Berger, Joseph Berger; his daughters, Mercedes Rojas, Kathleen Neuhaus, Ellen Banner, Eileen Estrada, Mary Goff; his grandchildren, Carolyn Sullivan, Paul Rojas, Jessica Neuhaus , Robert Neuhaus, Aaron Neuhaus, Eric Banner, Michael Goff, James Goff; and great grandchild, Grace Sullivan.
Born on January 20, 1929 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Carl Joseph Berger and Florence O’Brien Berger.
After graduating Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 where he was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato, California. He met his wife, Florence O’Hara, and were married in 1953. They had 5 children together.
Following his retirement from the Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sargent, he began his career as a salesman for National Gypsum. During his years of hard work and expertise he retired with top honors in the company.
Robert had a passion for singing and was a participant in the Choirs of St. Raphaels and Our Lady of Loretto. He offered his voice at weddings and funerals, and anywhere else there was a song to be sung.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 10:15am and funeral service at 11:00am on February 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. Internment at Valley Memorial Cemetery in Novato.
