Joyce Castelli McCarthy

We are sad to announce the passing of Joyce Castelli McCarthy of Novato, CA. She died at age 64 of a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Joyce passed away surrounded by her loved ones in peace on September 21, 2022.

Joyce was born on December 23, 1957, to Anthony and Gloria Castelli in San Francisco, CA. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Accounting and worked at Crown Zellerback as an accounting supervisor before starting a family. After her children were grown, she joined the City of San Rafael where she managed accounting for the Fire Department.

In 1983, she married Tom McCarthy. Shortly after, they started their family with two sons, Thomas McCarthy, and Matthew McCarthy. Joyce was a strong member of the school community working closely with the teachers, as well as home schooling. She loved to have family gatherings where her Italian love for food was ever present, along with her constant love and support of all who entered her home. Her never-ending kindness and love were felt by all acquaintances, making them feel as if they were part of the family. Joyce’s love for children and their happiness was also endless. In short, Joyce had an amazing heart filled with love, hope and faith.

Joyce is survived by Tom McCarthy (Husband), Tommy McCarthy (Son) and Eugene Thompson (Son-in Law), Matthew McCarthy (Son), David Castelli (Brother), Chris Castelli (Nephew) and William Castelli (Great-Nephew). Preceding Joyce in passing are Anthony and Gloria (Colonna) Castelli – Father and Mother, and Henry and Irene (Colonna) Barsotti – Uncle and Aunt.

The family would like to thank Kaiser Hospital and staff as well as Hospice by the Bay for their compassionate care during Joyce’s fight with cancer. They would also like thank all family and friends for their support and prayers.

She will be gone from our sight, but never gone from our hearts….
