Tanya M. Belan (nee Washkevich) was granted her angel wings on February 6, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late John G. Belan and passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and devoted caregivers, allowing her to pass peacefully and in comfort. She is survived by her son, Matthew J. Belan, his wife Meghan, and their children Brooke and Riley; and her dear sister Barbara Roth, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Tanya’s home was always filled with laughter, plants, collectibles and four-legged feline family members. Her hobbies included gardening and bird watching and she greatly enjoyed being by the water, participating in community activities and spending time with her family. Tanya was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and she always put the needs of her loved ones before herself. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, a sanctuary where memories were made and cherished. Tanya had a unique way of making each person feel valued and loved, a gift that enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that slowly takes away the memories and abilities that define us, but it could never take away the essence of who Tanya was. During her battle with Alzheimer's, she displayed fleeting glimpses of her true self. The twinkle in her eye, the smile that would appear when a loved one entered the room or when she heard her son’s voice were all precious reminders of the person who was still fighting to be there.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair RD, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a service at 7:30 PM.
