Shirley A. Henderson, nee Rickards, passed away on February 14, 2018. A native of Frederick, Maryland, she lived most of her life in Baltimore. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harlow A. “Skitch” Henderson, of Baltimore; two sons, David K. Henderson and Mark D. Henderson, both of Baltimore, and a daughter, Sandra H. Budd, of Baltimore; son-in-law Lawrence R. Budd and daughter-in-law Judy J. Henderson; and three granddaughters, Caroline Heisler of Toms River, NJ, Gillian Budd of Atlanta, GA, and Rachel Henderson of Baltimore; and the sister of her heart, Leslie Stevenson. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph M. Rickards, her mother, Rachael S. Rickards, and a number of Smith family aunts and uncles who loved her dearly.
Shirley was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ, and she lived for most of her life on the legendary Hilltop Avenue in Northeast Baltimore. Shirley attended Western Maryland College, and received an Associates Degree from Essex Community College, where she worked for many years in the Financial Aid Office.
Shirley loved reading, gardening, and being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. 9705 Belair Rd., Nottingham, MD 21236, on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11AM at the funeral home. Interment services will follow at Parkwood Cemetery.
