In the past 35 years Sharon and I had many conversations about books that we shared in common and her advise on new authors , we shared parenting strategies and stories about our girls . We talked about trips , friends , work ,  faith , family and day to day life experience . I valued her opinion and admired her strength . Sharon was a beautiful woman who loved her husband , girls , son in laws and grandchildren and the time she spent with them all together was more important than anything . I feel blessed for having known her.

Reflecting back on years past working my most favorite job ever. I made so many lifelong friends at Barnes and Noble...including, in a round about way, that guy I married. Retail life is not for everyone including me anymore, but those 5 years I spent working at BN were some of the best of my life. I heard some sad news about a manager that I worked with that entire time. It has saddened me greatly, but I know that she is no longer suffering. I think back at the times she made us laugh with her dry humor and her witty remarks. She was one that did not like seeing people goofing off, but was always ready for a laugh when the time was right. She held a tight ship and kept everyone in line. I learned a lot from her and know she is going to be sorely missed by her family. My time at BN would not have been the same without her presence. Sharon Getz...you will be greatly missed.

It seems surreal that I am expressing my condolences to the loss of a high school and college friend. Joe, you and Sharon were a perfect, loving couple.  That is so obvious by the pictures I have seen over the years.  Life's journey is a hard one and unfortunately we lose touch with friends that meant a lot to us.  Please accept my sincere sympathy and sadness over your loss of Sharon. She was an angel on earth and now she is an angel in Heaven to guide you, your children, and grandchildren. To the grandmom of my grandsons, to the mother of my daughters and sons in law, to my wife and best friend, I just want to say thank you. 

I can't even begin to imagine what my life would have been like without you. Now I'm going to have to learn very quickly.

We started our life together with a grasping of hands and very appropriately, we ended it with the same hands grasping each other almost 50 years later. 

I cherish the memories of the bells and lightening bolts that your presence gave me. And I look forward to experiencing them again when my time to rejoin you comes.

"Though she be but little, she is fierce."

Somewhere between 11pm and midnight the night before our wedding, you walked into a smoky, loud, cigar-piano bar and told Staci, "It's time to go." The way I remember it, the room stopped. Grown men reduced to boys, lowered their heads, slid drinks to the side and hid various tobacco products from sight. An otherwise strong and spirited daughter says "Yes ma'am" and leaves. Feels like it was yesterday. I think of that night sometimes, not often enough. I think they did last call hours early that night because someone thought it's what you would have wanted so that nothing would ruin the next day.

I thought you were going to kill me when we told you we were moving to Connecticut. I probably deserved it. I was sure I deserved it when we left for Texas.

We waited 5 days for Ethan's first smile. It happened in your arms, on a Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for that.

Thank you for your family. Thank you for telling me I was being a knucklehead that time; I needed it.

If it's not too much trouble, can you save me some coconut creme pie? Just freeze it, it will keep until I'm done down here.

It took me a whole day to think of the words to say but yesterday the world lost an amazing woman, Sharon Getz. She is part of the reason that took a job at Barnes and Noble 11 years ago to help them through one holiday season and never left. She was a great manager that made sure people were doing their job right. She was kind and sincere. She taught me everything I know as a head cashier. That's probably why my eye twitches when people don't have their bills facing the same way in their tills. Sharon loved Disney, her family, and especially her grandkids. She also loved Barnes and Noble. When she retired a few years ago there was a weird emptiness that couldn't be filled at our store but things got a little brighter when she would visit. After reading all of the comments from booksellers past and present, it is clear that Sharon touched many lives and was very loved by her BN family. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Getz family.

There are no words that can possibly capture the extent of our loss. A wife, a mother, a friend - Sharon was all of these and so much more. Her arms were opened to all and, with Sharon, there was no difference between family and friend. Friends automatically became family. Sharon had a love and an excitement for life that all of us would do well to emulate. On a personal note, little did I know that when my son, Jeremy, married beautiful Kim almost 14 years ago, their marriage not only gave me a daughter but opened the door to a friendship that I will forever cherish. When we talked and I would ask how she was, Sharon's response was ALWAYS "Excellent", even during the most challenging times. This surely captures how Sharon lived her life - in a truly excellent and beautiful way because she was a truly excellent and beautiful woman! I will miss you, my dear, sweet friend.

Sending our love and sympathies from Belgium to some of my favorite cousins in the world - Joe, Staci and Kim.   Your wife and and mom was one of the best people I knew, always thinking of others and making every moment with happiness.  We were so happy to have seen her on a FaceTime around Xmas 2015 where she looked in great form.  But time is so precious and things can change in a flash.  We'll miss being there with you at the service but when we are back in the US next time, would really enjoy a visit to share some memories of Sharon. A woman who brought light to all she met.  A woman who was a wonderful mother and caring wife.  A woman who shared joy openly and sadness internally.  A woman who by her mere presence could brighten a room or situation.  To say that Sharon was a wonderful woman is an understatement.  Sharon will be missed, and we will continue to remember her.  But most importantly, we knew how well she bore the burden of cancer - her cross - and without a doubt, WITH NO DOUBT, she is in the presence of God looking down on us and saying - "It'll be ok, have a drink."  We will be ok, but we will miss her each in our own way.  God rest her soul and may Perpetual Light shine upon her.
