Joy Wahlberg, 91, of Parkville, Md. died May 21 at her home. She is survived by her husband Bertil, sons Mark and his wife Becky, Brent and his wife Lydia, Scott and his wife Carol Ann, granddaughters Kristin and her husband Richard, Jenny, Kate and her husband Mike, and great-grandson Ian.
Joy was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Leslie and Ruth Atwood. She grew up in Spencer, Massachusetts and spent summers nearby at her grandparents home on South Pond. The lake has always been very special to her. After graduating from Clark University, where she met her husband, they moved to Canton, Connecticut and started their family. After her sons were all in school, Joy went to work teaching elementary school in Simsbury, Connecticut until her retirement 25 years later. In retirement Joy and Bert did some traveling, spent time at the lake and finally moved to Oak Crest Village in Maryland to be closer to family.
Joy had a good life and a strong faith in God. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
A family gathering to celebrate her life will happen at a later date.
