Richard Joseph Petro

Richard Joseph Petro, age 83, of Nottingham, MD, passed away on June 29, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Carol Margaret Petro (nee Jones); cherished son of the late Dominic, and Angela Petro; devoted father of Dominic A. Petro, and his wife Jody, Tina M. Leonard and her Late husband Thomas, Michael R. Petro and his wife Bea, Stephen J. Puopolo and his wife Lindsey, and the late Anthony J. Petro; loving grandfather of Richard J. Petro and his wife Jillian, Josiah A. Petro, Thomas M. Leonard, Nicholas M. Petro, Jacob A. Petro and his wife Olivia, Eliot R. Puopolo, and Oliver J. Puopolo; devoted great-grandfather of Theodore A. Petro; dear brother of Carl Petro, Maria Brennan and her late husband Michael, and the late Eleanor Westra and her surviving husband Albert. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Richard served in the Unites States Army from 1962-1965, as a Paratrooper in Vietnam. After the Army, he resumed working as a Printer and Horse Racing Handicapper for the Baltimore News American Newspaper Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but most of all loved watching his grandsons playing sports.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair RD, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held on, Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10 A.M., at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 4430 Belair RD, Baltimore, MD 21206. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org.
