Rest In Peace Officer Joe

Joey and I were best friends throughout our Frankford Elementary school days. We both served on the Safety Patrol,  Joey being the Capt and I the Lt. Formative days of our future Law Enforcement careers. I remember spending our time on the 'dirt hill' and the 'double decker' playing Army, sledding, riding bikes and selling seats for movie days in his basement. One fond memory I cherish was Joey being interviewed by WMAR Channel 2, my bud on TV!! Rest in Peace my Brother, until we meet again.......  Bryon

Was shocked and saddened to read of Joe's passing.  

We bowled in the same league at Fair Lanes Eastpoint way back in the late 80's and early 90's.  Joe was ALWAYS smiling and in a good mood.  And he was one heck of a duckpin bowler.  He and his team was one of the teams you looked forward to competing against, because it was a guaranteed good time, even if Joe's team took all 4 games!  

Was glad that my kids got to interact with Joe at Eastern Tech.  

Joe made everyone's life he came in contact with, better.

Deepest sympathy to the Comegna Family on the loss of Joe.....He and I worked at Pc 11 and on occasions worked out and chatted about anything and everything in the weight room...Joe was easy to talk to and had a great sense of humor......Lord look after his family and may he rest in peace.

Your family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers. I'm very thankful to have crossed paths with you and been a recipient of all the positivity that you shared with so many.  From one Queen of Peace family member to another, rest easy. ❤️

My deepest sympathy and prayers to Joe and his family! I had the pleasure of working with Joe in Precinct 11. We got along great. He was the patrol officer assigned to Back River Neck Road. Joe made that area a safer place to live and work. His energy and love  for people was self evident! He would do anything to help anyone at anytime! Joe worked as a school resource officer at several schools. This was a perfect fit for Joe and the students.  He always had a warm smile, even while directing traffic at Eastern Technical. He treated the students as if they were his own children.  Thanks for being a great role model Joe and thanks for your hard work for the citizens of Baltimore County! May you Rest In Peace my dear friend!

       My son and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Joe. He was a very good friend of mine and my son. I knew him when he was a police officer at the Essex district.  He would come into the grocery store where I worked and he would always say hello to all of us that he knew. He always had a smile on his face.  My son had the pleasure to meet him when was a resource officer at Stemmers Run Middle School and then a resource officer at Chesapeake High School. He Was always friendly with my son and said hello to him everday.  He will be missed by both of us. We want you and your family to know even though we cannot be with you you are in our thoughts and prayers are with you 


Mr. Joseph Comegna, You were loved and cared for by many. You went above in beyond and really made an impact in the children's lives. That did not go unnoticed... You will forever be remembered and missed by many! Rest easy

To my good friend, you were the finest officer I haeve ever met. You were a good friend, and a great mentor. I remember the way we met. I came to your office and asked if you knew Ofc. Wade from Parkville Middle, you told me you do, and all you SROs knew each other, and from that day, the 3rd day of my freshman year at Eastern Tech, a friendship was born, a beautiful one I cherish to this day, and forevermore. All of those days we would share laughs have stories, they were good times. Thank you for those memories, and making my time at Eastern worthwhile. Thank you for the service, and the impact you made on this world, trying to improve it.

I remember the times when i would be late to class because i would barge into his office, and we would be talking. We would share lunch every day, whenever he was there. Not one day went by that i didnt stop by to see my friend. There were days he would help me so much, id feel guilty and he tells me "youre just like one of my kids". He would always talk about his kids, his family. I remember one time i was late to class cause we were hanging out, my teacher was upset and i didnt have my pass, he walks in at the perfect moment and says "he's with me, causing trouble". The times he would say im trouble I miss so much. Im proud to have been with him those 4 years, and to have been his friend. He was a hero to all, and had a heart of gold. I'll miss him... I'll miss him.

To the family, I dont know fully the pain you are enduring. You were with this good man for all of or most of your lives. It must be difficult knowing his character, and i know there are millions of feelings racing through you all. I know God is with you all, and he will help you endure. Comegna sits above with our Lord because a man like that is impossible to keep from even God himself. I am with you all, God is with you all, we are with you all. We cannot fathom what you feel, and I pray peace upon you.

Joe, you were the best of all of us. Our time together as SRO’s at bordering schools were some of the best times in my career. We all know you were an exceptional father to your sons and a fantastic officer of the law and most importantly our friend.  You were a true meaning of what a friend is.  Your leadership and kindness and will to do the right thing shined every day.  The lives you touched and the dedication you gave to your students and the police department will always be remembered and cherished.  RIP my friend we got this!  I and many others will truly miss you! Your friend forever and until we meet again, Rob! 

I remember back when Joe Lateralled to BCoPD. Walking into into Pc11 with that Comegna SMILE! Such a genuinely nice guy! Hard to believe! Lots of love to his family!!!

My condolences and prayers to the entire Comegna family.   I have nothing but wonderful, happy memories of Joe, from bowling leagues, Maxwell's, playing wiffle ball in the yard on Glenoak Avenue, being the best man in our wedding and just hanging out with the entire family.  I often think of those happy times together and am so thankful to have been included for so many years.  May Joe rest peacefully and may you find comfort in one another.

My son is a scout. His first year overlapped with Joe's last year with our pack. He didn't work directly with our den, but was present at SUS, and on pack camping trips. He was such a friendly, and helpful guy. You could see his dedication and the respect he had for scouting, as well as the kids joy in his presence. Mrs. Comegna, I am so very sorry for your family's loss.  Many prayers will be said for all the Comegna's. 

I worked with Joe for several years in Essex.  He was my go to SRO for a lot of years.  When I worked on Back River Neck Rd I would frequently see him on foot patrol and he was always around to back me up.  Always super friendly and a great smile.  Dedicated officer that will be missed greatly.

I had a chance to meet Joe when he was in the SE District  and I was in the ED.  He was always friendly and had a great smile.  I retired from the City PD and have a civilian position with the County PD and was not aware that Joe was here.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Comegna family, as well as the City & County Police Departments.  Rest in Peace Joe.  May God bless you all. 

To the Comegna family, the Eastern Tech family and the Baltimore County Police Department family....my heart breaks for all of you.  I pray that God holds each and every one of you in His loving arms until you are able to walk on your own, once again.  Officer Comegna.....you are already dearly missed this side of Heaven...you left a forever impression on everyone that you met....I sincerely hope you know that.  You are free now, walking the streets of Heaven.....be the best "you" ever.  One day in the future, you will be called to the Heaven side of the Rainbow Bridge and your faithful black furface Bella will be running, looking for you. Find her and rejoice! I had the privilege of knowing Joe for many years as a teacher at St. Ursula School where I taught one of his sons.  Joe was the nicest person, always had a smile on his face, and a great family man.  I know he was involved in Scouts and Lacrosse.  He was over at school frequently volunteering at Hot Lunches and Special Lunches.  I would frequently run into Joe at grocery stores when I was shopping, and I was always greeted with a warm smile and hug.  Even last year, Joe was working security at Caves Valley for a Senior PGA Tour golf event, and I saw him both days I attended and that same smile and hug awaited me.  Joe was a genuine, super guy, and I know he will be missed by everybody who had the pleasure and fortune to interact with Joe.  Thank you Joe for making a positive impact and influence on my life.  Prayers sent to his entire family and friends during this time.

Joe and I both work as SRO's.  During training and meeting he always said something funny to make everyone laugh.  Even if you didn't want to laugh, hearing him laugh would cause you to laugh too.
