Frank Edward Wagner, Sr.

Frank was born on December 26, 1935 in Dundalk, Maryland. In 1953 he entered the United States Army. He served honorably until 1956 and returned to his hometown. It was then that he met Frances Victoria Harris and the two were married on May 5, 1959. They raised three children Frank Wagner, Jr, Alan Wagner, and Sandra (nee Wagner) McKelvin.

In 1959, Frank returned to military service and joined the United States Air Force. It was there that he would spend the next 30 years serving his country as a technician. Frank was a proud member of the 175th Wing of the Maryland National Guard, stationed at Warfield Air National Guard Base in Middle River. The 175th Maintenance Group is responsible for the 104th Fighter Groups’ A-10 Squadron servicing US Air Force Air Combat Command and United States Air Forces in Europe.

Upon his retirement in 1989, Frank became a successful entrepreneur. For the next 20 years, his company, Access Aid, would provide in-home medical aids, repairs, and new installations of medical equipment to allow those with disabilities to better navigate their homes and even operate motor vehicles. Much of his work was dedicated to America’s military veterans.

When he wasn’t raising his family and working, Frank was an avid fisherman and golfer. Frank and the family would spend many hours on the water fishing and crabbing directly from there home in Essex. Whether casting from the pier, or heading out on the bay, Frank proudly taught his children and grandchildren how to fish and navigate the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

Frank didn’t take up golf until he was 55, but once bitten he loved his time on the golf course. In his later years, he spent one day a week with his golf group at Rocky Point Golf Course where he developed many lasting friendships. Just this past summer, he was proud to have been able to have coordinated a post-Covid crab feast for his golf family.

Frank was preceded in death by his father Maurice and his mother Emma (nee Willis) Wagner, as well his brother Maurice Wagner, Jr and his sister Dorothy (nee Wagner) Vrhovac. He is survived by his three children and their spouses Frank and Cynthia (nee Decker) Wagner, Alan and Cynthia (nee Karas), and Sandy (nee Wagner) and Michael McKelvin. His six grandchildren, Danielle (nee Wagner) Zagorski, Paige (nee Wagner) Stella, Jordan (nee McKelvin) Sapp, Cameron McKelvin, Kalie Wagner, and Braeden Wagner. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Everly, Jovie and Carsyn Stella, and Parker and Addison Zgorski.

Relatives and Friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236 on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am.
