My name is Emma, my nan is Susan Martin and her mom was names Mary Josephine Cunningham and married an Albert Lester. She remembers her mom's sisters, many going to United States and some coming back to England to visit her once, and their names were Maureen, Eileen and Ethna who married an Edward mcbride. I don't know if this is the same relative but I have been looking at family history to help her. I am sorry if this is not appropriate and will delete straight away if not.

Can't believe it's a couple of years since we lost Big Ed. Nobody was more proud of his Derry roots than Ed.
He's remembered fondly in The Town We Love So Well.

Listened to Reflections of Ireland for many, many years. Loved all the tunes and was grateful for Ed McBride to run this show for all of us Irish Folk and many others! We will miss his voice and broadcasts. God bless❤️

Eddie and Ethna were my second parents. And of course the girls were my adopted older sisters/tormentors. Throughout my life, this amazing crazy McBride family has been a source of love and laughter. From Eddie I learned some powerful lessons that still serve me well: 1) work hard, especially for family and 2) always bring  joy and laughter to others. I miss Eddie so much, and I love you all!

A few years ago, my wife Ruthie and I, joined Debbie and David on a boating excursion that brought us through the Chesapeake, into the Patapsco River, eventually landing at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. A storm crept up on us quickly and it was obvious that we wouldn’t make it back. After tying the boat down, Debbie made a call to Uncle Eddie to see if he could pick us up. Without hesitation, he hopped in his car and made his way down from Perry Hall.

Gas prices at the time, much like today, swelled rapidly and were pushing $3/gallon. Shortly after Uncle Eddie picked us up he turned to me and said:

“Tony, I got gas today for $1.99!”

To which I excitedly replied, “You’re kidding! How did you manage that?”

“I bought a chili-dog at the 7/11…”

Uncle Eddie was a blessing. He was a cool breeze on a hot summer day. He was a calming presence in the midst of chaos. He was a voice of reason in a room of tattered nerves. He was a smile and a laugh. But mostly he was my friend and I will miss him.


I want to extend my sincerest sympathies to Ed’s family and close friends.  Everyone at WHFC is very saddened to lose our good friend.  His wonderful sense of humor, his extensive knowledge of Irish music, and of course, that enthusiastic smile will be greatly missed by so many.  His upbeat attitude and positive energy will continue to inspire all of us who have had the privilege to work with him. I will very much miss our Sunday afternoon routine together and I dedicated my show last Sunday to Ed and I’m sure he was listening.

So very sad to hear of Ed's passing.He was a big man in every way.The one thing that he loved more than his family and his music was his home town. He was one of the proudest Derrymen I ever met.

Really, really sorry to hear about Eddie passing. Memories, I have a huge amount of memories from living with Eddie when he boarded in our house on Mc Cabe Ave in the 50/60’s. 

The entire house was disrupted with his stories and jokes, they seemed to be non stop. Our side were literally sore from laughing so much.  My brothers and I were children then and we just loved Eddie living with us, never ever a dull moment. 

I remember when he got his first car he took us all in to it and drove to Loch Raven Dam to see all the ‘courting’ couples in the back seats of their cars parked around the Dam! 

I remember him telling our Raymond before we went into mass that when the basket came around it was for you to take money out not put money in. Of course there was a scramble to stop Raymond from doing what he was told…..

So many memories from my childhood and beyond. What greater memory than to always associate a person with sheer laughter and fun, that’s my lasting memory of Eddie, the world will never be the same without him. 

We will miss Ed so much.  He was such a funny and joyful person, and you were guaranteed a good time and a good laugh anytime you were in his presence.  Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to Ethna and the entire McBride family.  We hope it brings some peace and comfort to know that your beloved Ed is in heaven and he is making all the angels smile.  God bless him. 

Mr. Eddie is what I have called him all my life. Mr. Eddie is a huge loss to his family and the Irish community. He held the Irish community together with his radio show and the many wonderful dances he organized, what great memories we have because of it. Not to mention his DJ skills and many parties!  I always admired his love and dedication to his family, especially to Ms. Ethna and his girls. You will be missed by many Mr. Eddie RIP 💚🇮🇪💚🇮🇪💚🇮🇪

Wonderful memories with this man and family. To know someone for 50 plus years is priceless. My second family. Love to the moon and back. 

Ed was very special.  I volunteered with him at WHFC and his sense of humor always made us laugh.  Ed could have easily been a professional comedian.  He was a dedicated host of "Reflections of Ireland" and his devotion to the Irish community of Maryland and the surrounding areas cannot be replaced.  Edward, I have to send one of my sticky notes to Heaven and draw a heart on it.  You were always such a good sport about them.  I will miss you.  Sending love and comfort to Ethna and your family.

Our hearts are broken!!  We miss him already.  He was larger than life and lit up any room he entered.  Now he’s entered heaven and is free from pain and suffering!  We all love you dad!  We are already sharing your corny jokes and stories.  So many to tell!  RIP!💔💔💔
