On April 12, 2024, Dorothy M. Hoover (nee Hefner) passed away peacefully. She was the beloved wife of the late John (Bill) W. Hoover Jr.; devoted mother of Christine Boileau, her husband Robert, Eugene Hoover, his wife Carolyn, Regina Smith, her husband Richard, Victoria Howard, her husband Scott; loving grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; dear sister of Jo Ann Nuetzel, the late Florence Puffinburger; cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Hefner.
Dorothy grew up in East Baltimore and attended St. Paul Catholic School. She and her sister Florence started playing the accordion at an early age and played at local shows including for the inmates at the Baltimore City Jail. Her opening song was “Don’t Fence Me In” – she really had a great sense of humor. She and Florence also played for the USO, entertaining the GI’s during WWII.
At 18 she married Bill Hoover in 1946 when he returned from Europe at the end of the war. They were happily married for 57 years. Bill passed away in 2003 and they are now rejoined for eternity.
A funeral mass will be held at Stella Maris Chapel, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, MD 21093, on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair RD, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10:00 to 12:30 PM. Inurnment will follow at the Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.
