Dorothy E. Ely

On January 1, 2020, Dorothy Evelyn Ely passed away. She was the beloved wife, of 75 years, of the late Walter Jacob Ely; devoted mother of Richard D. Ely and his wife Marlyn, Dorothy L. Sullivan and her husband Carl, and Carol A. Scharoun and her husband Lou; loving grandmother of Catherine Walega and her husband Richard, Keith Scharoun and his wife Amber, David Ely and his wife Melissa, Christopher Sullivan and his wife Lisa, Amy Lauer and her husband Christopher, and Melissa Heeter and her husband Andy; dear sister of Jean Lhotsky. Dorothy is also survived by 15 loving great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 6 siblings.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair RD, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Saturday, January 4, 2020, from 10:30am to 12pm; at which time a funeral service will begin. Interment services will follow at Parkwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231, or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
