Darlene Ann Codd, age 77, of Nottingham, MD passed away on February 5, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Robert “Bob” E. Codd; devoted mother of Rebecca A. Baker and her husband Trey, and Amy E. Herman and her husband Bob; loving grandmother of Ella Baker, and Charlie, Chase, and Max Herman; dear sister of Herbert Hasselbarth, Jr. and his wife Carol.
Darlene was a teacher at heart; from playing school as a child, graduating from Towson State College with an elementary education degree, teaching second grade at Riverside Elementary in Joppa to finally working many years as an Instructional Assistant at Martin Boulevard Elementary in Middle River.
She enjoyed many hobbies through the years, including bowling, sewing, baking, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and of course, shopping. Darlene often joked that she hoped heaven had a mall, and to bury her with her credit card. Traveling was another love of Darlene's, especially after retirement. She loved the beach and cruises, with some of her favorite trips being to Hawaii, Alaska, and Bermuda. In recent years, Darlene's favorite pastimes most certainly were traveling south to visit her granddaughter, Ella, and spending countless hours playing with her grandsons, Charlie, Chase, and Max.
Darlene was her family's seamstress, as sewing was a hobby she held for most of her life. She made her own clothing in college, sewed her bridesmaids dresses for her wedding, and created a myriad of Halloween costumes. Recently, she regularly performed "surgery"for her grandson's well loved stuffed dog, Nugget.
Darlene had a sweet tooth and could have opened her own confectionary. For years, she made chocolate candies, decorated cakes, especially for her daughters' birthday parties, and baked an assortment of breads and desserts. There was usually some sort of homemade baked goods to be found in her home.
Darlene will be missed dearly by all those that knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair RD, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 11 AM, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery (Fullerton, MD). Darlene's favorite color was blue. Please wear blue to the visitation and funeral in her honor. Thank you.
