Carol Virginia Rossilli (Diggs), 85, died peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Oak Crest Village in Parkville, MD after a long fight with Parkinson’s Disease. A native of Cumberland, MD, Carol was the daughter of the late Vincent Diggs and Clara (Alkire) Diggs.
A devout Catholic, Carol belonged to St. Stephen parish in Bradshaw, MD and St. Francis de Sales parish in Abingdon, MD, always maintained a generous spirit, attended weekly Mass, and regularly prayed her rosary. Carol lived most of her life in the Lake Side Vista neighborhood in Joppa, MD, caring for and raising her family. An avid gardener, she was known to brighten up her friends’ lives with gifts of fresh Lilacs from her flower garden. Carol retired from Harford County Public Schools where she served as an Instructional Assistant, touching the hearts and minds of hundreds of children at Edgewood Elementary School, helping them learn to read, write, add, and subtract.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mario Rossilli, Sr., her parents, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Monica Goeller, and her husband, Paul Goeller, Sr., their sons, Paul Goeller, Jr. and Steven Goeller, and their grandson, Paul “Dino” Goeller, III; her son, Mario Rossilli, Jr., and his wife, Susan Rossilli, their sons, Tyler Edwards and Drew Edwards, and their granddaughter, Rae Edwards; her son, Caesar Rossilli, and his wife, Christine Rossilli, and their sons, Dominic Rossilli and Joseph Rossilli; her sister-in-law, Ann Rossilli, and her husband, Keiji Tasaki; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at 70, Carol was determined not to give up without a fight. She spent many hours learning about Parkinson’s, took up therapeutic boxing and yodeling and participated in a multi-year, longitudinal research study in the hopes that one day there will be better treatments and ultimately a cure for such an insidious disease.
Carol was also preceded in death by her second husband, Frank Kozel and is survived by his children: Greg Pessagno, Kristie McComas, and Lisa Mangione.
A receiving of friends will be held for Carol at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. 9705 Belair Road Nottingham, MD 21236 on Friday, December 8, from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A Receiving of Friends will be held on Saturday, December 9 at Oak Crest Chapel 8820 Walther Blvd Parkville, Maryland 21234. from 10am-10:30am. At which time a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am. Inurnment to follow at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
