On November 21, 2015, Bert Thomas Dixon, beloved husband of the late Phyllis Ann Dixon (nee McBrayer); devoted father of Tom Dixon and his wife Beth, and Martha Ann Dixon-Smith and her husband Rick; loving grandfather of Andrew Dixon, Holly Phass, Sarah Dixon, and Matthew, Joseph, Phillip, and Jack Schafer; dear brother of Glenn Mac Dixon and his wife Roberta, and Billie Jo Pendergrass and her husband Willis; cherished brother-in-law of Carol Dixon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bert grew up in Eastern Kentucky where he had a great life as a kid. He met the love of his life, Phyllis, while attending college at Morehead State. He loved playing sports and later coaching, eventually returning to his alma mater, Prestonsburg High School, creating a winning football team. He joined the FBI as a Special Agent, relocating to MN and later Perry Hall, MD in 1968. After his retirement from the FBI, he taught at Mountain Christian School where he also started a vibrant sports program. Recently he enjoyed ushering at the Aberdeen Iron Birds games. He was a devoted member of the Baltimore First Church of God, teaching and working hard to maintain the property. His passion was teaching, coaching and caring for children. We celebrate him because of the many lives he touched with his kindness and caring way. His memory will be cherished.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, and on Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Mountain Christian Church, Joppa, where a funeral service will be held at 7pm. A funeral service and interment will take place in Morehead, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Morehead State University, 150 University Blvd, Morehead, KY 40351.
