William F. "Billy" Scaccia Jr., 83, of Dedham, passed away surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday morning, June 20, 2024.
Born and raised in Hyde Park, he was the son of the late Margaret J. (DiPastina) and William F. Scaccia, Sr.
William attended local schools, and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. After high school, William enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a jet engine mechanic. Following active duty, William remained in the Naval Reserve. In later years, he joined the National Guard, where he served for many more years. William worked for over 40 years for the MBTA as a Trolley Mechanic and Foreman at Riverside. In addition, he worked in construction as a second occupation for many years.
Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his full dress Harley-Davidson. He enjoyed riding cross-country and to Sturgis however, nothing came close to the love and dedication that he had for his family.
William was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (Thomas) Scaccia. He was the devoted father of Cindy Scaccia of Worcester, Sherri Scaccia and Krissy Scaccia of Dedham, and the late Anthony Scaccia and William F. Scaccia, and step-father of Lori Donovan of Roslindale, Jason Donovan of Norton, and the late Kelly Donovan. William was the brother of Cathy and her husband Bob Pike of Braintree, Marilyn and her husband James Gasbarro, and Doreen and her husband Joseph Avila, all of Dedham. He is survived by thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Tuesday June 25, 2024 from 3-7 PM. Private Funeral Services will be held with Interment at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Billy's memory to American Legion Post 18, 155 Eastern Avenue, Dedham MA 02026.
