MACLEOD, Roger Christopher, 75, of Norwood, Wednesday, January 29, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, on October 17, 1938, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and M. Gertrude (Fay) MacLeod. Roger graduated from Norwood High School with the class of 1956 and from Michigan State University. He devoted his professional career to providing equal opportunity to all, regardless of disability, gender, race or religion, initially through employment with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and later with the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency from which he retired in 1996. In 1985, Roger was the recipient of the distinguished Robert K. Byron Public Service Award. Active in politics from an early age, serving as local town meeting member and member of the Norwood Democratic Town Committee and Town of Norwood’s Handicapped Commission. In 1966, Roger ran as democratic candidate for state senate. Roger also proudly served as Morrill Memorial Library Trustee for over 40 years, starting as one of the youngest trustees when he was only 26 years of age. In retirement, Roger advocated for rights of nursing home patients and continued funding for the industry to preserve adequate levels of care. Roger maintained an avid interest in reading and antiques. Through his business, Isle of Skye Antiques, he dealt in buying and selling antiques at local flea markets and antique shows for many years and loved attending local auctions. Roger was the beloved husband of Ruth (Clark) MacLeod of Norwood; the loving father of the late Roger C. “Chris” MacLeod, Jr., Scott C. MacLeod and his wife, Christina of Canton, and Heather M. and her husband, Brian Crowe of Amherst, NH; cherished grandfather of Brady and AJ Crowe; dear brother of Patricia Pulling of MI, Richard MacLeod of CO, and the late John J. and Rev. Thomas E. MacLeod and Janet Mecklenberg; and the uncle of many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 3rd at 9:00 AM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington St., Norwood. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 2nd , from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to the Morrill Memorial Library, 33 Walpole St., Norwood, MA 02062 or a charity of one’s choice.
