ST. THOMAS, Rita A. 93, of South Yarmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Windsor Nursing Home. Rita was born August 4, 1931 in Norwood, MA to the late Joseph and Mary (Keeley) Devine of Foxboro, MA where she spent her childhood and graduated from Foxboro High School in 1949.
Rita is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Rodrigues and son-in-law, Ken of Hopkinton, MA. She was affectionately known as "Grammy" to 4 grandchildren: David Rodrigues and Lindsey of Framingham, MA; Daniel Rodrigues and Nicola of Brookline, MA; Carl Brady of Dennis Port, MA; and Craig Brady and Catie of Holden, MA. She cherished her 4 great-grandchildren: Kayla (10), Jack (6), Bruce (10) and Luke (8).
She was "Auntie Rita" to Jacki Devine Rose of Foxboro, MA; Jay Devine of Foxboro and Jamie Devine and Michelle of Mansfield, MA, and Great-Aunt to Lonnie Lee, Nicholas, and Joel.
Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husbands Robert St. Thomas (d. 2012) to whom she was married for 20 years and Charles F. Seaverns, Jr. (d. 1985) to whom she was married for 35 years. She was also predeceased by her cherished daughter Diane Seaverns Brady (d. 2017) as well as her sibling Joseph "Sonny" Devine (d. 2022).
Residing in Norwood for 36 years Rita actively volunteered in the community. She participated in many PTA functions such as fundraising and creating a new school library. Some of her fondest memories and what she was most proud of was serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years. Summers were spent vacationing on Cape Cod with the family and eventually she made the move to South Yarmouth.
She enjoyed playing cribbage and other card games; watching the Red Sox, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy on TV; reading mysteries and listening to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Rita loved to travel on cruises. She was so excited to share her excursions through the Panama Canal, Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda and other islands.
Visitation in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St, (Rt.1A) NORWOOD, on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 11:30AM – 1:30PM. Service in the Funeral Home at 1:00PM. Private Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery to be scheduled for a later date.
