ABELY, Paul J. Sr., 78 of Norwood, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 16, 2016. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. As well as brother, uncle and friend to many. Paul was a lifelong resident of Norwood. The son of the late Joseph and Helena (Woodburn) Abely, he was the brother of Joseph and his wife Ann, the late Richard and his wife Cheryl, Michael and his late wife Arlene, Nancy and her husband David Ross, Mary and her husband Shawn Butler, the late David, Robert, and John and his wife Donna. Paul shared 51 years of marriage to his beloved wife Emilie M. (Sullivan), who predeceased him in 2012. He was the son-in-law of the late Denis and Blanche (Houle) Sullivan and brother-in-law of Maureen (Sullivan) Eppich of Vero Beach, Florida. Paul was the devoted father of Paul Jr. and his wife Terri of Walpole, Ellen Hope of Wrentham, David and his wife Michele of Stonington, CT. and Kristin and her husband Michael Bianculli of Walpole. Paul's greatest passion was family. His greatest joy was spending time with those closest to him. Paul was the wonderful example of a father and grandfather. He was the cherished grandfather of Patrick, Timothy, Benjamin, and Nicholas Abely, Victoria Hope, Gracie and Ava Bianculli, and Lauren and her husband Andrew Denehy. Loving great-grandfather of Drew and Payton Denehy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Paul attended St. Catherine of Siena School and was a graduate of the class of 1956 from Norwood Senior High School. Paul went on to graduate from Northeastern University and began his distinguished 40 year career as Director of Contracts for Raytheon Company. While raising his children Paul was involved in coaching Norwood Little League baseball and Norwood Nuggets Hockey. Summer vacations were always spent on Nantucket Island with family and friends. Paul particularly enjoyed the 4th of July and the traditions associated with it. Following his retirement he wintered in Naples, Florida surrounded by his wonderful friends. Paul volunteered his free time with services at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. He was celebrated in 2014 at the Saint Catherine of Siena School Gala Honoree. Funeral Tuesday December 20 from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rt. 1A), NORWOOD, at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood at 11.
