Mary Rita Mellon

Mary was born on August 9, 1920 in Boston to Peter and Mary Kate McLaughlin and grew up in Dorchester where she attended St. Ann’s School and Dorchester High School. Mary was married in 1948 to John J. Mellon and moved to Norwood where they raised their family. Mary later returned to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her career she worked at Norwood Hospital, Massachusetts Hospital School for Children in Canton, and Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton.

Mary is predeceased by her husband of 73 years, John J. (Jack) Mellon who passed away in December at the age of 101. Mary leaves her four daughters: Mary Johnson and her husband Leon of West Chester, PA; Nancy Plante and her husband Arthur of Cumberland, RI; Donna Caron and her husband Paul of Norfolk, MA and Janet Mellon of Norwood, MA.

Mary will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren: Laura Rowe, Mark Johnson, Jennifer Castro, Gregory Caron, David Plante, Brenda McDonough, Cheryl Condran, and Andrea Nouss. Mary cherished her 20 great grandchildren and would have welcomed her 21st very soon.

Mary was one of eight siblings and will be greatly missed by her only surviving sister, Patricia T. Costello of Attleboro, MA, along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings: Gerald McLaughlin, James McLaughlin, Harold McLaughlin, Kathleen Sullivan, John McLaughlin, and Peter McLaughlin.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Burial services will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA.
