James Joseph Hines, 60, of Norwood passed away from cancer after a brief illness on Monday, September 5, 2022. Born September 7, 1961 to Spafford Hines and the late Antonetta (Palmieri) Hines. In addition to his father, James is survived by his brother Edward and his companion Mary McGovern of Wrentham and his sister Carla of Norwood.
James was a 1979 graduate of Norwood High School, where he was valedictorian. He was a 1983 graduate of Cornell University, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and was a huge fan of Big Red Hockey and football. He joined Raytheon Corporation soon after graduating and remained there for his entire working career. While at Raytheon James earned a master’s degree from Northeastern University. A voracious reader, he collected books on European and American history and art. He was a member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at St. Timothy Church, Norwood at 10:30am. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to the Italian Home for Children, 1125 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
