Formerly of Allston and Medway, she was 88 and the beloved wife of the late George C. Azar. Born in Medway August 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George and Sarah (Shamy) Lotfy. After graduating from high school she took a position with Liberty Mutual Insurance and commuted to Boston by bus on a daily basis.
Through a family friend she met her future husband and they were married when she was 23. George and Helen made their home in the South End of Boston and later purchased a three family home in Allston along with George’s two brothers and their wives where she raised her family. Following the death of her husband in 2001, Helen moved to Arlington to live with her immediate family.
Helen is survived by her devoted children: Carol Musto and her husband Ben, Janice Azar and Joy Azar all of Arlington and George Azar and his wife Donna of Kingston. She was the loving grandmother of Bengi Musto, Zachary and Rachel Azar; sister of the late Louis Lotfy, Mary Lotfy Pouliot, Ardelle Kling, Kenneth Lotfy and Michael Lotfy (killed in action at Anzio Beach, Italy in WWII) and is also survived by her brother in law, Sam Azar of Holliston and her sister in law, Helen Lotfy of Milford as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Monday, November 28, at 10:00 AM at St. George Orthodox Church of Boston, 55 Emmonsdale Road, West Roxbury.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St, (Rt. 1-A) Norwood.
Interment in Oakland Cemetery, Medway.
The family suggests that rather than flowers, donation in memory of Helen should be made to the charity of one’s choice.
