Gerard H. "Gerry" Roth, Sr., 72, of Norwood, formerly of Readville, passed away with his children by his side on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Born in Boston, Gerard was the son of the late Francis T. "Frank" Roth and Mary (Hallisey). Raised in Hyde Park, he was a 1969 graduate of Boston Technical High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
For many years, Gerry worked as an engineer in high-tech manufacturing, known for his skill and dedication to his profession. Outside of his career, he had a deep passion for golf and was a longtime member of Ponkapoag Golf Course, where he made lifelong friends. Gerry was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus in Readville, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends, particularly on Thursday nights.
Above all, Gerry was extremely proud of his five children, but his greatest joy came from his 14 grandchildren. He was the devoted father of Gerard H. Roth Jr. and his wife Supriya of Walpole, Christopher R. Roth and his wife Erin of Roslindale, Michael F. Roth and his wife Katelyn of East Walpole, Andrew J. Roth and his wife Kathryn of East Falmouth, and Laura J. Lopes and her husband Manny of Norwood. Known affectionately as “Papa G,” Gerry’s love for his grandchildren—Hunter, Logan, Henry, Evie, James, Owen, Kevin, Brianna, Ben, Maddie, Callie, Trip, Emmie, and Leo—was immeasurable, and he took immense pride in being their loving grandfather.
Gerry was also the cherished brother of Francis T. Roth Jr. and his wife Ann, Jackie Moran, Mary “Merrie” McTernan, Kathy Baker, Christopher Roth and his wife Teresa, Judy Skeffington, and Debbie Bower and her husband Ronnie. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Frank McTernan and Tom Baker. Gerry is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Tuesday December 10 from 4-8 PM, and again on Wednesday morning from 10-11:30 AM, prior to the Celebration of Life which will be held at the Norwood Elks, 152 Winslow Avenue, Norwood from 12-5 PM. All friends and family are welcome.
