He was born in Norwood, MA on January 22, 1926 to the late Vernon & Evelyn Pearl Marguerite (Hertle) Conrad. Carroll grew up in Norwood and after high school he served in the Army during WWII with Company C of the 253rd Engineers Combat Battalion. He served oversea in Europe and was discharged on May 29, 1946 with the rank of Private First Class. Before his retirement, Carroll worked as a finish carpenter for G. Greene Construction in Brighton and was a member of the local Carpenter’s Union. Carroll married the former Anne Smith in Norwood, MA and soon they settled in East Walpole were Carroll built their home where they raised their two children.
In his spare time, Carroll liked to go bowling at the Norwood Sports Center and was a member of the American Legion Post 70 in Norwood, the Norwood Square Dancers and was an active member of the Norwood Senior Center where he was known as “Mr. Fix It.”
Beloved husband of the late Anne (Smith) Conrad. Loving father of Brian Conrad of East Walpole and Laura Howell & her husband Robert of Sandown, NH. Cherished grandfather of Megan Howell of NH. Devoted brother of Allan Conrad of FL and Penelope Kramer of VA. He was predeceased by his siblings; Ralph Conrad, Merrill Conrad, Gereen Gibbs, Lillian Bailey, Ina Marchand, Calvin Conrad, Vernon Conrad, Caroline Conrad, and Dolores Conrad.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Tuesday, January 7 at 11AM at Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, Norwood.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-7PM in Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood.
