Alison M. (Fletcher) Badger, age 88 of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Born on November 25, 1935 in Hornchurch, Essex, East London, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph Fletcher and Rose (Parker) Fletcher.
Alison grew up in England where she played field hockey in high school and graduated from the University of London in 1958. She then moved to the United States where she became a U.S. citizen in 1968. She continued her education and worked for the United Fruit Company. She was an assistant professor at the Boston University School of Medicine from 1972-1978 as an instructor in Microbiology and she graduated from the school with a Ph.D. in immunology in 1979. She went on to develop medicines for rheumatoid arthritis with Smithkline Beechem where she was the Assistant Director in the Department of Immunology and Anti-Infective Therapy. She lived in Pennsylvania while working for Smithkline and then retired to Massachusetts with a winter home in Boynton Beach, Florida. She enjoyed socializing with her Marblehead and Boynton Beach friends, and ran a bed and breakfast during her years in Marblehead. Her hobbies included tennis, scuba diving, traveling and gardening. She was also an avid, life-long reader. She was always a cat person until she found her precious Westie, Daisy.
Alison leaves behind her sons Paul A. Badger and his wife Joan of North Attleborough, and John M. Badger and his wife Maria of Norwood; her brother Martin Fletcher and his wife Florence of Zimbabwe, as well as her grandchildren Paul M. Badger, Stephanie M. Badger, Jerome L. Jackson, Cameron K. Badger and Zachary J. Badger. She was predeceased by her brother Graham Fletcher.
Funeral Services will be held privately through the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rt.1A) NORWOOD.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society of the United States.
