Tina was born on September 8, 1949 in Norwich the daughter of Merton and Marian (Phillips) Duell. She was a lifelong resident of the Norwich area and had attended the Norwich schools. In her early working career Tina worked for a brief period of time for the Norwich Knitting Mill. In 1972 she gained employment with the Norwich Shoe Co. where she worked as their top quality control inspector and trainer until they closed. Not a person to sit idle, she attended BOCES where she took several business courses. Tina eventually gained employment with the Chiarino Insurance Agency working as a receptionist. She also worked for RCIL in Utica (Resource Center for Independent Living) and worked as a home health aide in the Norwich area as well as being a volunteer for Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County. Tina also operated the “business end” of her husband’s construction Co., Ashton Construction.
Tina was a quiet and caring person. Over the years she enjoyed her fishing, even if it was out of a mud puddle, cooking which she was a master of, camping, berry picking and in her early years riding motorcycle. She was also fond of animals and operated a doggy day care for many years. In her “quiet time” she enjoyed crafts, knitting and crocheting.
On July 24, 1993 she married Larry Ashton who survives. Besides her husband Larry, Tina is survived by her children Dennis St. Mire and wife Victoria of Blackwood, NJ, her daughter Stephanie White of Cape Vincent, NY, her grandson Corey White and a great grandson Daniel White. Also surviving is her half-sister Sheila Moore of Norwich and half-brother Bill Welsch also of Norwich along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tina was predeceased by her parents, her sister Pamela Coryell and half-sister Sherri Welsch.
A PRIVATE Service for Tina will be held at the convenience of the family from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
