Tom was born in Norwich on October 6, 1929 the son of Frank and Hazel (King) Leahy. He was educated in the Norwich schools attending both St. Paul’s Catholic school and the Norwich High School. In 1946 entered the United State Army/Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1949. Returning home he began his career with the Norwich Food Market. Tom eventually went on to work with P&C Food Markets and in 1952 began a long time career with Victory Markets. He began as an Assistant Manager in 1952 working his way to Manager in 1954 and in 1973 became District Manager from which he retired in 1990.
Aside from his work, Tom was an active man. Over the years he was involved in the operation of Ham Radio and a founding member of the Chenango Valley Amateur Radio Association. He enjoyed many good times shooting skeet and trap at the Iroquois Rod and Gun Club, was a member of the local VFW POST 2782, enjoyed country music, square dancing and was an avid bowler at the Brown Ave. bowling alley.
On July 5, 1952 in St. Paul’s Church of Norwich he married Dolores Michel who survives. Besides his wife Dolores, Tom is survived by his sons Thomas M. Leahy and companion Deanna Russell of Norwich and James (Jacqueline A.) Leahy also of Norwich, a grandson William Russell along with several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his siblings Jane Gould, Marjorie Deady, Robert and Martin Leahy and Lawrence (Larry) Blood.
In keeping with Tom’s wished there will be no formal service or calling hours. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
